Pay stub abbreviations explained

Short answer

Pay stub abbreviations are short labels for earnings, taxes and deductions. The most common are YTD (year to date), FIT or FITW (federal income tax withheld), SS or OASDI (Social Security), MED (Medicare), SIT (state income tax) and GTL (group term life insurance). Exact labels vary by payroll provider.
